🇺🇸 Scott Sharp

Scott Sharp was a Platinum-graded professional competing in single-seater and endurance racing in the United States from 1996 to 2018. He spent fourteen seasons in IndyCar, racing primarily on oval circuits for Delphi Fernandez Racing, and returned to racing in his forties for campaigns in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship and the World Endurance Championship. His career spanned 193 starts across four series, yielding ten wins and 27 podiums.[1]

In IndyCar, Sharp took nine of those wins from 147 starts between 1996 and 2009, finishing his oval-racing career with a record of 138 oval starts against 9 road-course and street-course entries. He was a regular opponent for IndyCar's established professionals of that era, including Sam Hornish Jr., a three-time series champion, and Dario Franchitti, who won four championships; Sharp typically finished behind Hornish Jr. but remained closely matched with drivers of comparable standing. Later, he moved into sports cars, taking one win in IMSA WeatherTech and a pair of podiums in the World Endurance Championship's LMP2 class between 2014 and 2018. His final indexed season was 2016 in WEC, where he finished 22nd in the championship standings across six rounds.[2]

The IndyCar field of the 1990s and 2000s included established professionals such as Tony Stewart and Dario Franchitti; Sharp finished ahead of Stewart on eleven occasions and ahead of Franchitti on 22, establishing himself as a mid-field regular capable of occasionally beating the strongest drivers in the series.
