🇿🇦 Tomas Scheckter

Tomas Scheckter is an established professional who raced in IndyCar between 2002 and 2011, competing predominantly on oval circuits for Panther Racing. He also made early-career starts in International Formula 3000 and Formula 3 Macau in 2000 and 2001. Across 126 career starts, he took two wins and seven podiums.[1]

His IndyCar tenure spanned a decade of 119 starts, producing both his career wins and the bulk of his podium finishes. He contested Formula 3000 briefly in 2001 with European Minardi F3000, adding a podium from four starts, and made three appearances in Formula 3 Macau for Swiss Racing Team in 2000. His final season came in 2011, when he competed in four IndyCar rounds before retiring from the sport.[2]

Scheckter spent much of his career against the highest level of American single-seater racing. He was a regular opponent to Helio Castroneves, a Platinum-graded professional and two-time IndyCar champion, and Tony Kanaan, the 2004 IndyCar champion, though he typically finished behind both. He finished ahead of Dario Franchitti, a four-time IndyCar champion, on 21 occasions across their meetings. He also beat Mark Webber, the 2016 WEC LMP1 champion and a former Formula 1 driver, once in competition.
