Sam Hornish Jr. is an established professional driver who competed in IndyCar for two seasons between 2006 and 2007, recording 31 starts, 5 wins, and 11 podiums across that span. His Racer Rating of 5,793 places him in the established professional band, the level of a full-time seat at the top level or a factory sportscar driver capable of wins in the strongest fields. Hornish finished his final season, 2007, in fourth place overall with 1 win and 4 podiums from 17 rounds, averaging a sixth-place finish across his career.[1]

Hornish raced consistently against some of the era's strongest drivers. His regular rivals included Scott Dixon, a four-time IndyCar champion rated as an elite professional, though Hornish finished ahead of Dixon in 9 of their 31 shared races. He also held a winning head-to-head record against Dario Franchitti, the 2007 IndyCar champion, beating him 14 times in 31 meetings. Against other established competitors such as Danica Patrick, Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves, and Dan Wheldon, Hornish posted mixed results, winning slightly more often than not against Patrick and the others while losing more frequently to Vitor Meira. He occasionally finished ahead of much stronger drivers, including elite professional Michael Andretti twice and Gold-graded European driver Tomáš Enge once.[2]
