🇧🇷 Maurício Gugelmin

Maurício Gugelmin was an established professional single-seater driver who competed across three international open-wheel championships between 1985 and 1992. He spent most of his career in Formula 1, where he started 75 times for Jordan across five seasons from 1988 to 1992, finishing 15th in the championship in his final year. His earlier apprenticeship came in International Formula 3000, where he won once in 20 starts for Ralt Racing, and Formula 3 Macau, where he won three times in seven starts for West Surrey Racing.[1]

Gugelmin took a podium finish in Formula 1 and five more across his Formula 3000 and Macau campaigns, collecting four wins in 102 starts across all three series. In Formula 3000 he raced regularly against Ivan Capelli, the 1986 champion, and they proved closely matched throughout their time in the series. In Formula 1 he was teammates with established professionals at Jordan and occasionally outqualified or outraced stronger drivers, including three finishing positions ahead of Mika Häkkinen and five ahead of three-time Formula 1 champion Nelson Piquet, though these instances were exceptions rather than a consistent pattern against such elite opposition.[2]
