He drove for Mönninghoff Racing and Pacific in the latter series, where he took his only win.[1]
Tamburini's record in International Formula 3000 ran from 1990 to 1993, yielding one victory and two podiums across twenty-three starts. His 1993 season finished twenty-second in the championship standings. His earlier appearance came in the 1989 Formula 3 Macau event, a three-race entry for Prema Racing in a field mixing amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals.[2]
He raced regularly against Marco Apicella, an established professional with fifty-two International Formula 3000 starts, and held a closely matched record with him. Against Andrea Montermini, a professional with experience in Formula 1 and GT racing, Tamburini typically finished ahead. He defeated Christian Fittipaldi, the 1991 International Formula 3000 champion and later a double-class winner in IMSA, once in their meetings, and finished ahead of Allan McNish, who would go on to race in Formula 1 and the World Endurance Championship, four times across their encounters.
