Gil de Ferran was a Brazilian professional racing driver and team owner who competed at the highest levels of international motorsport. His documented racing career began in Formula 3 Macau during 1992, where he made three starts for Paul Stewart Racing without securing wins or podium finishes, placing sixth in the final round.[1]
Beyond his early single-seater efforts, de Ferran went on to establish himself as a significant figure in North American racing, earning Champ Car championships in 2000 and 2001 while driving for Team Penske and claiming victory in the 2003 Indianapolis 500. He later founded de Ferran Motorsports and competed in sports car racing, finishing as runner-up in the American Le Mans Series LMP1 class in 2009. De Ferran became a respected mentor and influential presence within professional motorsport before his passing.[2]
