Paul Belmondo was an established professional racing driver who competed across single-seater and endurance categories over 17 seasons. He raced in Formula 1 for Pacific in 1992 and 1994, took 45 starts in International Formula 3000 between 1987 and 1991 for Apomatox, and spent nearly a decade in the FIA GT Championship from 1999 to 2007, where he shared cars for JMB Racing. He also competed in Formula 3 Macau early in his career with David Price Racing.[1]

His record across 99 starts yielded one victory and seven podium finishes. That single win came in the FIA GT Championship, where his seven podiums were concentrated. His Formula 1 tenure was brief; he started seven times and finished 20th in the championship standings in his final year, 1994. His longer stint in International Formula 3000 produced no wins and no podiums across 45 starts, marking that series as a developmental phase rather than one where he found the pace to contend with regulars. He was closely matched with Marco Apicella, an established professional and FIA Silver graded driver with 52 Formula 3000 starts, and similarly competitive against Mike Hezemans, a professional and FIA Silver graded driver who raced 117 times in the FIA GT Championship.[2]

His most notable scalp was Damon Hill, the 1996 Formula 1 world champion, whom he finished ahead of twice across their meetings in Formula 1 and International Formula 3000. Belmondo also beat Pierre-Henri Raphanel, an established professional, in two races across their encounters in International Formula 3000 and the FIA GT Championship. These results sat within broader fields that mixed amateurs and professionals; Belmondo's own team, Paul Belmondo Racing, fielded 32 drivers across 35 of his starts and claimed six race wins over that span.
