🇯🇵 Marco Apicella

Marco Apicella is an established professional racing driver with a Racer Rating of 5,695, graded FIA Silver in endurance competition. His indexed career spans eight seasons from 1985 to 2009 across single-seater and sports-car racing, most extensively in International Formula 3000, where he competed for Stewart across 52 starts. He raced primarily for First Racing in the early part of his career and made a sole Formula 1 appearance for Jordan at the 1993 Italian Grand Prix.[1]

Apicella took ten podiums across 55 starts, all of them in Formula 3000 where the bulk of his career unfolded between 1987 and 1991. He raced consistently against other established professionals in that series, remaining closely matched with Paul Belmondo and Andrea Chiesa, both regular opponents who competed across similar circuits and championships. He finished ahead of Christian Fittipaldi, the 1991 Formula 3000 champion and later a dual IMSA and Formula 3000 title-holder, on one occasion, and beat Allan McNish, who went on to Formula 1 and international endurance racing, six times across their meetings.[2]

His final indexed appearance came in Super GT in 2009, a single-round entry in the GT300 class piloting an FIA GT3 car. The bulk of his professional work took place in the competitive single-seater field of the late 1980s, where he proved capable of running among graded professionals in a series that drew from amateur through to fully professional ranks.
