Marco Greco was an established professional racing in American oval-track single-seater competition. Between 1996 and 1999, he competed in IndyCar for Phoenix Racing, completing 23 starts on ovals. His career also included four starts in International Formula 3000 in 1989 and 1990 for Pacific.[1]
Greco finished 25th in the 1999 IndyCar championship standings and scored one podium across his 27 indexed starts. His career spanned a decade in single-seater racing, though the bulk of his record came from his four seasons in IndyCar, where he raced against an established professional field that included graded drivers and former champions.[2]
He competed regularly against Eddie Cheever and Buddy Lazier, both established professionals with stronger records; the head-to-head records with each were closely matched. Greco finished ahead of Tony Stewart, who would win the 1997 IndyCar championship, on ten occasions, and beat Michele Alboreto, a former Formula 1 driver, once. Phoenix Racing, his primary team, fielded 83 drivers across its history and won races in that period with drivers including Kurt Busch.
