Ed Carpenter is an established professional racing in IndyCar, a single-class national championship that fields drivers from amateur through graded-professional level in the same races. He has been a full-season regular there since 2003, competing for Vision Racing. The bulk of his 210 starts have come on ovals, where IndyCar traditionally runs the majority of its calendar.[1]

Across 24 seasons on record, Carpenter has taken three wins and ten podiums. He has raced against multiple Indianapolis 500 champions and a sustained field of established and elite professionals; his regular opponents have included Scott Dixon, a five-time IndyCar champion who has usually finished ahead of him, and Tony Kanaan, the 2004 champion. Carpenter has finished ahead of Alex Palou, the current five-time reigning IndyCar champion, on three occasions, and ahead of Pato O'Ward, an elite professional and two-time champion in other series, four times. He holds the joint record for most Indianapolis 500 starts without victory, alongside George Snider. The 2026 season is still in progress; through the rounds raced so far, Carpenter sits 25th in the championship standings.[2]
