🇧🇷 Jaime Melo

Jaime Melo was an established professional competing in endurance and single-seater racing across a twelve-year career. A Platinum-graded driver, he raced in the FIA GT Championship from 2004 to 2009 for AF Corse, shared his car in multiclass and single-class endurance grids, and competed in International Formula 3000 in 2000 and 2001. His final indexed season was 2012, when he took two podiums from three WEC starts in the LM GTE Pro class.[1]

In the FIA GT Championship, Melo took three podiums and one win across 25 starts as an AF Corse regular. His single indexed Formula 3000 podium came from 17 starts in 2000 and 2001. His most recent racing came in the 2012 WEC, where two podiums in three rounds placed him eighth in the season championship standings. Across 46 starts he recorded one win and six podiums.[2]

The fields Melo raced in mixed graded professionals with semi-professional and amateur entrants. He was regularly matched against Andrea Piccini, an entry-level professional with a Gold grade and 60 FIA GT Championship starts, and Fabrizio Gollin, the 2004 FIA GT Champion; he finished ahead of both drivers across their head-to-head meetings. He also finished ahead of Fernando Alonso three times and Mark Webber twice in endurance racing, both elite professionals who went on to much higher-profile careers in single-seaters and prototype racing.
