John Babot is a competitive amateur who raced in NASA, a national multiclass championship mixing amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals on the same grid. He competed in the Spec Miata class, driving a Mazda MX-5 in spec trim, primarily for Mazda Miata across seven seasons from 2011 to 2017.[1]
Babot accumulated 62 starts, 7 wins and 18 podiums over that span. He was most active early in his career; his final season in 2017 saw only two races and one podium before he finished 77th in the championship standings. His record places him among the closer competitors in his class, regularly matched against drivers like Hernan Palermo, an entry-level professional, and Trevor McCallion, a competitive amateur; against McCallion he typically finished behind, while his results against Palermo were closely split.[2]
Babot occasionally finished ahead of drivers with credentials beyond Spec Miata. He beat Parker Chase, a professional with IMSA and ARCA Menards Series experience, six times across their meetings. He also took two races against Gar Robinson, an established professional and FIA Silver graded driver who later won consecutive IMSA WeatherTech LMP3 championships, though Robinson was substantially faster overall and finished ahead in the majority of their encounters.
