Karl Pflanz was a competitive amateur racing driver competing in national German endurance championships over a thirteen-year career. He raced shared-driver Porsche and BMW machinery in the multiclass Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie from 2011 to 2021 with rent2drive-FAMILIA-racing, then moved to the Nürburgring 24 Hours with Four Motors GmbH from 2022 to 2024, piloting alternative-fuel cars in its AT and AT3 classes.[1]
Across 25 starts, Pflanz took six podiums and one win. His early seasons came in the Langstrecken-Serie, where he finished on the podium four times across its various classes over eleven campaigns, competing against a mixed field of amateurs and semi-professionals alongside graded professionals. His sole victory came in the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2022 or 2023, with two additional podiums from the three 24-hour entries that followed.[2]
The fields Pflanz raced in included entry-level and semi-professional champions of the Langstrecken-Serie in Norbert Bermes and Wolfgang Weber, both of whom he encountered repeatedly and typically outpaced him; he also shared grids with established and professional drivers of considerably higher standing, among them Marvin Kirchhöfer, who competes in GT World Challenge Europe and has raced in GP2 and GP3, and Mirko Bortolotti, a 2024 DTM champion with extensive experience in international sportscar racing. Pflanz finished ahead of both once each across his career.
