Kurt Kuhnke was a German racing driver whose single-seater career consisted of one Formula 1 start in 1962, driving for Lotus-Borgward. He finished twentieth in the race and never returned to the series. His rating of 3,385 places him among competitive amateurs; a driver capable of club racing and entry-level professional competition, though his limited record offers little basis for precise assessment of his actual level.[1]
Kuhnke's brief appearance in Formula 1 came during an era when the grid regularly included drivers with minimal preparation or prospects, many of whom never raced again. The single start provides insufficient evidence to characterise his capabilities against the field. Away from single-seaters, he found greater success in motorcycle racing, suggesting his talents lay elsewhere than four-wheel racing at the highest level. His career in Formula 1 was not repeated.[2]
