Erwin Bauer was a German driver who competed in Formula 1 during the 1953 season. He made a single World Championship start at the wheel of a privately entered Veritas, finishing twentieth in the race. His career on record spans this one appearance and no more; he is now retired. His Racer Rating of 3,385 places him in the semi-professional band, a level describing drivers who win in pro-am and one-make classes and run mid-pack among full professionals; this single Grand Prix start, however, offers limited evidence of sustained competition at that level.[1]
Bauer's sole Formula 1 outing came for Veritas, a marque that won no races across its entire index and fielded a roster in which the strongest driver was Hans Herrmann, an established professional rated 7,031. The gap between Herrmann's calibre and Bauer's single unplaced finish reflects the breadth of talent represented on Veritas's grid. Beyond this one Grand Prix appearance, no further racing record survives in the database.[2]
