🇺🇸 Nelson Canache

Nelson Canache is a semi-professional endurance racing driver who competed across seven seasons from 2013 to 2021. He raced primarily in American Endurance Racing, a multiclass championship where production-based cars in Classes 3 and 5 share the track with faster machinery; he also made starts in IMSA WeatherTech and IMSA Pilot Challenge, both multiclass endurance series, and a single appearance in the ARCA Menards Series. His main team was Flying Lizard Motorsports, which fielded him for 11 of his 35 career starts.[1]

Canache won the 2018 American Endurance Racing championship, taking six wins and fifteen podiums across 21 starts in that series between 2018 and 2020. His record in IMSA WeatherTech came earlier, with 12 starts for Park Place Motorsports in 2014 and 2015; he finished 36th in the 2015 championship points. A single ARCA Menards start in 2013 completed his main racing activity. His final indexed appearance came in 2021 with one start in IMSA Pilot Challenge for Rockwell Autosport Development.[2]

In the multiclass fields where he raced most often, Canache was closely matched with Al Carter and Paul Sparta, both of whom went on to win American Endurance Racing championships in the class where Canache competed. He finished ahead of Kevin Estre, an established professional and WEC LMGTE Pro and HYPERCAR champion with 65 WEC starts, on six occasions, and ahead of Brendon Hartley, a Platinum-graded professional and two-time WEC champion with 88 WEC starts and 25 Formula 1 entries, twice.
