Al Carter is an entry-level professional racing in national multiclass endurance championships, racing in shared cars across multiple classes. His primary series has been American Endurance Racing, where he competed from 2018 to 2021 with 28 starts, 13 wins and 23 podiums, winning the Class 5 championship in both 2019 and 2020. He holds an FIA Silver grade, placing him below the full-professional ranks in endurance racing. Carter also raced IMSA Pilot Challenge for Automatic Racing, IMSA WeatherTech for Riley Motorsports, and GT4 America for Random Vandals Racing in his final indexed season of 2023.[1]
His record in American Endurance Racing was substantially stronger than his work elsewhere. In the IMSA series, where he took nine IMSA Pilot Challenge starts and thirteen IMSA WeatherTech starts, he secured only one win and two podiums across both championships combined. His 2023 return to racing in GT4 America Am class yielded three podiums from seven starts over a single season before his retirement.[2]
Carter raced regularly against Nelson Canache, the 2018 American Endurance Racing Class 5 champion, and Damien Faulkner, a professional with substantial experience in IMSA Pilot Challenge and IMSA WeatherTech; against both drivers the record was closely matched. On single occasions he finished ahead of Chase Briscoe, an elite professional and 2016 ARCA Menards Series champion with extensive NASCAR experience, and Shane van Gisbergen, an FIA Platinum professional and two-time Supercars champion.
