Tony Raines is an entry-level professional who raced stock cars in the NASCAR Truck and NASCAR Xfinity series, competing primarily on ovals. He drove for ML Motorsports during his fourteen seasons in the Xfinity series from 1999 to 2013, and had one start for RSS Racing in the Truck series in 2013.[1]
Raines made 284 Xfinity starts over fifteen seasons, accumulating seven podiums across both series. He earned 1999 Rookie of the Year honours in NASCAR's national touring series and was a former American Speed Association champion. His final indexed season came in 2013, when he completed seven rounds of Xfinity racing before finishing 37th in the championship standings. He raced almost entirely on ovals, with just ten of his 284 Xfinity starts coming on road or street courses.[2]
He competed regularly against Kenny Wallace and Jason Keller, both professional-level drivers with over 500 Xfinity starts each, and held his own against them. Raines finished ahead of Denny Hamlin, an elite professional who went on to establish himself as a top Cup Series competitor, on sixteen occasions; he also beat Ryan Blaney, the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion, once in their limited meetings. He was most closely associated with BACE Motorsports, which fielded him for 157 of his 285 career starts.
