Volker Wawer was a competitive amateur racing in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, a multiclass endurance championship run at the Nürburgring where he shared Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport and BMW one-make cup cars for PROOM Racing Porsche and Team Mathol Racing. Graded Bronze by the FIA, he competed from 2013 to 2018 across six seasons in national-level racing alongside both amateurs and graded professionals on the same grid.[1]
Wawer took one win and four podiums from 16 starts. His strongest finishes came in the 2018 season, when he won once and took two further podium places from four rounds raced. He beat professional drivers including Mehmet Kaya Mustafa, a 2019 Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie champion, and Gabriele Piana, a Silver-graded professional with 60 Langstrecken-Serie starts and 16 GT World Challenge Europe entries.[2]
His regular opponents in the series were Ivan Jacoma, an entry-level professional and multiple Langstrecken-Serie champion, against whom he was closely matched, and Moritz Kranz, a professional driver who won the Cup 3 class three times and finished ahead of him more often. The shared-car format of endurance racing meant Wawer's results were joint efforts with co-drivers, and his record reflects that partnership.
