Andy Ponstein was an entry-level professional racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, competing primarily on oval tracks. He drove for Rick Ware Racing across his career, which ran from 2004 to 2011.[1]

Ponstein started 26 times in the Xfinity Series over five seasons of racing, finishing 36th in the championship standings in his final year of 2011. The bulk of his starts came on ovals, where he raced against a mixed field of amateurs, semi-professionals and established professionals competing in the same championship.[2]

Against the regulars in his series, Ponstein typically finished behind drivers of greater experience and standing. Jason Leffler, who had logged nearly 300 Xfinity starts and raced in IndyCar, was a frequent opponent whom Ponstein rarely beat. Kenny Wallace, who accumulated over 500 Xfinity starts, was similarly out of reach on most race days. Ponstein's most notable results came against established champions; he finished ahead of Kevin Harvick, winner of the 2001 and 2006 Xfinity titles, once in their limited meetings, and beat Brad Keselowski, the 2010 Xfinity champion, on a single occasion.
