Charles Espenlaub is an entry-level professional and FIA Silver-graded driver competing in shared-car endurance racing. He races primarily for CP Racing in the 24H Series, a multiclass international championship where Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and GT3 machinery competes alongside cars from 10 other classes and drivers ranging from amateurs to graded professionals. He has also competed in IMSA's Pilot Challenge and WeatherTech series and the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie; his current activity is in the Porsche Endurance Challenge North America for HM Road Racing.[1]
Espenlaub won the 2018 24H Series title with PROsport Performance and has taken 10 wins and 33 podiums across 84 starts since 2013. His primary focus has been the 24H Series, where he has scored 10 wins and 27 podiums from 43 starts. The IMSA Pilot Challenge and WeatherTech campaigns yielded limited success; he finished on the podium once in 11 Pilot Challenge starts and once in nine WeatherTech rounds in 2014. His Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie record of 12 starts produced two podiums. In the Porsche Endurance Challenge North America, he has taken three podiums from three starts and currently sits 24th in the championship standings as the season is still in progress.[2]
The 24H Series grids regularly include established professionals and former champions. Espenlaub has finished ahead of Jake Dennis, a 2023 Formula E champion and Platinum-graded driver who has raced across Formula E and Formula 3, and has beaten Kevin Estre, a Platinum-graded two-time WEC champion, on four occasions. His regular opponents in the series include Pierre Kaffer, an entry-level professional and FIA Gold driver with extensive WEC and IMSA experience, whom Espenlaub usually finishes behind, and Max Edelhoff, with whom he runs closely matched; the latter is on the stronger end of the semi-professional field. CP Racing has fielded eight drivers and taken 22 wins in the index, and its roster has included Xavier Maassen, a professional-level driver.
