Herb Sweeney was a club-level racer competing in SCCA Regionals, a national multiclass sprint championship in which up to 25 classes share the track. He raced one-design Spec Racer Ford sports cars in the SRF3 and SRFx classes for a single season in 2022.[1]
Sweeney took three wins and five podiums from six starts, finishing fourth in the championship standings. He was consistently faster than his regular rivals Craig Chase and Ben Ruehl, beating them in most of their meetings. He also scored wins over Steve Owens, a club driver with 49 SCCA Regionals starts, and once defeated Lincoln Young, a competitive amateur who has raced across SCCA Majors, SCCA Regionals and American Endurance Racing.[2]
