John Black is an entry-level professional racing in national multiclass sprint championships in the United States. He races Spec Racer Fords in the SRF3 class of the SCCA Majors and Regionals, and competes in the same machinery at the SCCA Runoffs; he also raced BMWs in club racing early in his career. His primary base is the SCCA Majors series.[1]
Black has won 20 races across 60 starts since 2008, with 46 podium finishes. The bulk of his record comes from the SCCA Majors, where he took 16 wins and 39 podiums in 50 starts between 2021 and 2026. He also scored 4 wins from 5 starts in SCCA Regionals and 2 podiums from 3 attempts at the SCCA Runoffs. His record in these multiclass sprint fields, where he competes against a mix of amateur, semi-professional and graded professional drivers, shows consistent front-running pace in his class.[2]
Black races in a field that regularly includes entry-level professionals with higher-series credentials. Caleb Shrader, the 2022 SCCA Majors SRF3 champion, is his most regular competitor and the two are closely matched. Colin Queen, an FIA Silver-graded driver with experience in GB3 and Lamborghini Super Trofeo, has been beaten by Black once; Colin Kaminsky, an entry-level professional who has raced Indy Pro 2000 and Indy NXT, has been finished ahead of twice.
