Larry Gunselman is a retired American stock car driver who raced in NASCAR Xfinity, a national single-class oval championship that fields amateur, semi-professional and professional drivers in the same races. He competed for JD Motorsports across four seasons from 2002 to 2008, recording 70 starts on oval tracks.[1]
Gunselman spent his entire indexed career in Xfinity, finishing 38th in the championship standings in his final season of 2008. He was an entry-level professional competitor whose results placed him mid-field in a series with a wide range of abilities. He finished ahead of established professionals including Kyle Busch, a future two-time NASCAR champion, on four occasions, and beat Christian Fittipaldi, an IMSA WeatherTech champion and former Formula 1 driver, twice. These results came against drivers with far greater pedigree and resources, though his regular opponents Jason Keller and Bobby Hamilton Jr., both professionals with substantially more Xfinity experience, typically finished ahead of him.[2]
After his driving career ended, Gunselman moved into team ownership, founding Max Q Motorsports, which fielded the No. 37 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series from 2009 to 2012.
