Michael LaMaina was a developing amateur racer who competed in the SCCA Runoffs across three seasons from 2020 to 2022. His record on track consisted of four starts without wins or podiums, and he averaged a finishing position of 18th overall. LaMaina's rating of 993 places him at the developing level, the entry point of competitive racing where drivers are still building experience and consistency against established fields.[1]
LaMaina's most frequent rivals in the SCCA Runoffs were Nick Leverone and Jeremy Butz, both semi-professional drivers; against Leverone he finished ahead once but behind twice across their three shared races, while he split results evenly with Butz, winning the head-to-head twice but losing once. Although LaMaina finished ahead of several stronger drivers on single occasions, including FIA Gold-graded Connor Zilisch and semi-professional drivers Brad Perez, Julian DaCosta and Skyler Cottrell, these instances represent isolated results rather than sustained performance against that calibre. He did not progress beyond club-level racing and retired from competition in 2022.
