Michael Loughran is a developing amateur competitor racing in national single-class motorsport. He drives a spec 1990-2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata in the SM class of the SCCA Regionals and SCCA Majors championships, multiclass events run across the United States that field amateurs alongside semi-professional and professional drivers.[1]
Loughran has completed four seasons of racing from 2023 to 2026, accumulating 31 starts across SCCA Regionals and SCCA Majors. He has taken one win and two podiums, the win coming in SCCA Majors competition in 2024. His current 2026 SCCA Regionals campaign sits at 55th in the championship standings after four rounds raced so far, with one podium finish to date. In SCCA Majors proper competition, he has raced five times across 2024 and 2025, recording the win and one other podium.[2]
In the mixed amateur-to-professional fields he competes in, Loughran's record is mixed. He typically finishes behind Gianni Maiuro, a semi-professional regular with extensive experience across SCCA Regionals, SCCA Majors and Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup competition. He more often finishes ahead of Kaelyn Kinley, a fellow developing driver also racing SCCA Regionals. He has beaten the entry-level professional Weston Duchak once across their meetings and has finished ahead of Bobby Gossett, the 2026 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup ND2 champion, on two occasions.
