Oliver Mathai was a professional-level endurance racing driver, competing in shared-car GT and production-car championships across Europe. His indexed career spans from 2004 to 2014, with eight starts across the FIA GT Championship and the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie. He raced for Jens Petersen Racing in the FIA GT Championship and drove modified production-based cars and GT3 machinery in the Nürburgring series for Aston Martin Test Centre Aston.[1]
Mathai's racing was concentrated in two brief campaigns. He made three starts in the FIA GT Championship in 2004 with Jens Petersen Racing. His more substantial activity came in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie between 2010 and 2014, where he accumulated five starts across the SP 7, SP 8 and SP 9 classes. His final season brought a 19th-place championship standing in 2014.[2]
In a field that regularly included established professionals, Mathai typically finished behind his most frequent opponents. He was regularly outpaced by Luca Cappellari, the 2004 FIA GT Championship winner, and Uwe Alzen, a FIA Silver-graded driver with substantial experience in both the FIA GT Championship and Nürburgring series. On isolated occasions Mathai finished ahead of stronger drivers; he beat Bert Longin, an FIA Bronze-graded professional with eighty FIA GT starts, and Marco Wittmann, a Platinum-graded driver and 2011 FIA Formula 3 European champion, each once across their meetings.
