Ray Black Jr. was a professional stock car racer competing primarily in NASCAR Xfinity, where he made 102 starts between 2015 and 2020 for SS-Green Light Racing. He also raced in NASCAR Truck from 2014 to 2016 and made a single NASCAR Cup Series start in 2018. An oval-track specialist, he ran 96 of his 102 Xfinity starts on ovals.[1]

Black raced seven seasons across the three national NASCAR series. His most consistent tenure came in Xfinity, where he competed regularly for SS-Green Light Racing. His final indexed season was 2020, when he finished 30th in the championship standings across five rounds before retiring from full-time competition.[2]

Black operated in fields that mixed amateur and semi-professional entrants with graded professionals. Among regular opponents, he typically finished behind established and professional-level drivers such as Brandon Jones and Ryan Sieg, both of whom had far greater volume in the series. His most notable results came against elite-level competition; he finished ahead of Christopher Bell, a 2017 NASCAR Truck champion and FIA Silver-graded driver, on 12 occasions, and beat Denny Hamlin, who has competed extensively across all three national series, twice. SS-Green Light Racing, his primary team across 84 of his 134 starts, did not record wins in the indexed results and fielded drivers ranging from developmental to established professional level.
