Tray Ayres is a semi-professional racing solo in multiclass national championships run by the SCCA across the United States. He competes primarily in SCCA Majors and SCCA Regionals, driving Spec Racer Ford one-design cars and purpose-built prototypes in the SRF3, SRF, P2 and BIT classes.[1]
Across seven seasons from 2020 to 2026, Ayres has taken 48 starts and won nine races with 25 podiums. His record is strongest in SCCA Regionals, where he has won seven times from 22 starts; SCCA Majors yielded two wins from 25 starts and a full season of regular competition. A single start at the SCCA Runoffs in 2020 brought a podium in the P2 class.[2]
Ayres runs closely matched with club-level regular Arvid Albanese across both championships. Against stronger opposition, he has beaten entry-level professional Evan Slater twice in SCCA Majors and professional bronze-graded driver Peter Dempsey twice; however, he usually finishes behind Tim Preble, the 2023 SCCA Regionals SRF3 champion, despite competing regularly against him in the same car.
