Tray Ayres is a competitive amateur racing solo sprint racing in national multiclass championships run by the SCCA. He races primarily in the organisation's Regionals series, where he competes in the one-design SRF3 Spec Racer Ford class and the BIT class for mixed closed-wheel cars. He also contests the Majors championship in P2 prototypes and SRF3 machinery, and has made a single Runoffs appearance.[1]

His record across seven seasons from 2020 to 2026 spans 57 starts with 5 wins and 31 podiums, the bulk of them in Regionals. In that series alone he has taken three wins from 29 starts and finished on the podium in nineteen of them. His Majors results are smaller in tally; two wins and eleven podiums from 27 starts across both the P2 and SRF3 grids. His most recent activity was a Runoffs appearance in 2020, where he took a podium finish.[2]

Ayres races in fields that mix amateurs with semi-professionals and graded professionals. Against the regulars he meets most often, he typically finishes ahead of Tim Preble, a competitive amateur with 74 Regionals starts and 38 Majors entries. He usually finishes behind Arvid Albanese, the 2024 SCCA Regionals SRF3 champion, though a regular opponent across both series. He has beaten Peter Dempsey, a professional with an FIA Bronze grade and extensive single-seater experience in Indy NXT and Star Mazda, twice; and Evan Slater, an entry-level professional campaigning Trans-Am and Radical Cup machinery, twice as well.
