Allen Applegate was an entry-level professional racing in the NASCAR Xfinity series, a national single-class oval championship that fielded amateurs and semi-professionals alongside graded professionals. He competed on record across five seasons between 1982 and 1989, accumulating ten starts in the series.[1]
Applegate finished 44th in the 1989 Xfinity championship standings, his final season of indexed racing. Across his career he typically ran behind the established professionals in his field; he finished behind both Tommy Houston and Jack Ingram, the latter a two-time Xfinity champion, in the races they shared. On two occasions he finished ahead of stronger drivers: he beat professional Rob Moroso, the 1989 Xfinity champion, and professional L.D. Ottinger once each across his career.[2]
