L.D. Ottinger was a professional stock car racing driver who spent a decade in NASCAR Xfinity, the national single-class championship run entirely on American ovals and a handful of road courses. Driving primarily for Parker Racing, he started 206 times between 1982 and 1991, taking three wins and twenty-one podiums across the series' mixed field of amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals.[1]
Ottinger raced most often against entry-level professionals Tommy Houston and Jack Ingram, the latter a two-time Xfinity champion; he and Ingram finished closely matched across their meetings, as did Ottinger and Houston. His best scalps came against established professionals: he finished ahead of Sam Ard, a back-to-back Xfinity champion, twice across their encounters, and beat Jeff Gordon, a Gold-graded professional, once in their single meeting. Parker Racing's strongest driver across its roster, Ottinger carried much of the team's five indexed wins during his tenure there.[2]
