Daniel Burkett is a retired professional sportscar driver who raced in IMSA's national endurance championships. FIA Silver-graded, he competed in the IMSA Pilot Challenge GS class driving production-based GT4 sports cars, and also made starts in IMSA WeatherTech's prototype categories and the Pro Mazda Championship single-seater series between 2015 and 2017. His primary team was Cape Motorsports / Wayne Taylor Racing.[1]
Across 28 starts, Burkett took one win and eight podiums. His strongest season came in 2016 in the IMSA Pilot Challenge, where he won once and finished on the podium five times in seven starts with CJ Wilson Racing. He made five starts in IMSA WeatherTech's PC class between 2015 and 2017, taking two podiums, and contested a full 16-round Pro Mazda Championship season in 2015 for Cape Motorsports, finishing 11th in the standings with a single podium.[2]
His regular competitors included Pato O'Ward, an elite professional who went on to win the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech PC championship and 2018 Indy NXT title before racing IndyCar; Burkett typically finished behind O'Ward. He also beat stronger drivers occasionally, including O'Ward four times across their meetings and Dane Cameron, a Platinum-graded Mazda champion and multiple IMSA WeatherTech champion, once in their head-to-head racing.
