Garett Grist is a professional-level sportscar and endurance racing driver, rated 4,710. This places him among professional competitors; he races at the sharp end of GT and sports prototype fields rather than as a frontrunner, and typically finishes in the midpack of strong grids. The FIA grades him Silver, denoting a professional driver, usually early or mid-career, competing in sportscar racing rather than single-seaters.[1]
Grist spent his early years in open-wheel racing. He competed in Pro Mazda from 2014 to 2016 for Juncos Racing, winning five races and podiuming nine times across 37 starts; he then attempted the higher level of Indy NXT in 2016 without scoring points before moving to sportscar racing in earnest. His primary series has been IMSA WeatherTech from 2017 onwards, where he has 18 starts, two wins, and twelve podiums with Jr III Racing. He has also raced the IMSA Prototype Challenge, the European Le Mans Series, the World Endurance Championship at Le Mans in 2020, and more recently the IMSA Endurance Challenge, where he won in 2026. His head-to-head record shows mixed form against drivers of similar calibre. He trails Neil Alberico significantly, a comparable Silver-rated driver, finishing behind him 29 times to 15 ahead; by contrast he leads Dalton Kellett, another Silver-graded professional, by 22 to 14 across 36 shared races. He has beaten Jose Gutiรฉrrez, also Silver-rated, 18 times to 12 behind.[2]
Grist's record shows occasional peaks against much stronger competition. He finished ahead of Pato O'Ward, a two-time champion rated as an elite professional, ten times across 26 races, and has beaten Malthe Jakobsen, a three-time champion, four times. These remain exceptions in a career built on consistent mid-field performance in endurance racing. His average finishing position across all 83 starts stands at 6.8th. He continues to race actively in IMSA competition as of 2026.
