Bailey Murphy is a competitive amateur whose Racer Rating of 2,510 places him at the front of club racing and the entry level of professional competition; he races quick enough to reach the podium in fields of his peers and to beat professionals occasionally, but does not sustain that against drivers who make their living racing. Murphy's career on record spans five seasons from 2008 to 2013, concentrated in the SKUSA SuperNationals, where he made five starts without securing a win or podium finish. His average finishing position across all classified starts was 18th, a result of competition against a field considerably stronger than his own rating would suggest.[1]

Murphy's head-to-head record is instructive. Against Austin Self, a driver of nearly identical rating, Murphy finished behind in all three shared races. Against Mason Chelootz and Kiel Spaulding, both rated just above him, Murphy won once from three meetings each but lost twice to each; this is the record of a driver competitive at his own level but not superior to it. Against Alec Udell, an FIA Silver graded professional and 2024 GT World Challenge America Pro champion rated 4,719, Murphy finished ahead once in three races; against Trent Hindman, an FIA Gold graded driver rated 4,520 and a two-time IMSA champion, he achieved one result ahead. These isolated victories against much stronger drivers are notable as anomalies rather than patterns, and reflect the variance inherent in small samples, not sustained competitiveness at that level.
