🇺🇸 Gabby Chaves

Chaves is a professional road-racing driver competing in IMSA's national endurance championships; he holds an FIA Gold grading in sportscar racing. He races for Andretti Performance in the Pilot Challenge, piloting GT4-based GS-class and TCR touring cars in multiclass sprint and endurance rounds, and for Andretti Motorsports in the WeatherTech championship in DPi prototypes, GT3 cars and LMP3 prototypes. His career spans fifteen seasons from 2011 onward across single-seaters, IndyCar and sportscar racing.[1]

Chaves won the 2020 IMSA Pilot Challenge championship with Bryan Herta Autosport. In single-seaters, he was the 2014 Indy Lights champion, taking five wins and twenty-one podiums across twenty-six Indy NXT starts, and finished runner-up in the 2012 Star Mazda Championship with two wins and ten podiums. He made thirty-nine IndyCar starts between 2015 and 2018, competing on both ovals and road courses. His endurance record in WeatherTech includes one win and three podiums across thirty-one starts; in Pilot Challenge he has taken three wins and five podiums in seventeen starts to date. He also ran GP3 in 2011 and took victory at the SKUSA SuperNationals in 2012.[2]

In the fields where he regularly races, Chaves meets established competitors. His most frequent opponent is Zach Veach, an entry-level professional and FIA Gold driver with forty-seven IndyCar and forty-three Indy NXT starts, against whom Chaves usually finishes ahead. He is closely matched with Jack Hawksworth, a professional Gold-graded driver and winner of both the 2012 Star Mazda Championship and the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech GTDPRO title, who has raced 111 WeatherTech rounds and 50 IndyCar starts. In his junior career, Chaves finished ahead of Charles Leclerc, now a Formula 1 driver and two-time series champion, once in GP3.
