Carlos Munoz is an established professional driver who raced across open-wheel categories from 2008 to 2018. He competed in Formula 3 championships in Europe, the Indy NXT ladder series, and IndyCar for Signature, Andretti Global and other teams. His primary focus in the latter part of his career was IndyCar, where he started 73 races across road courses, street circuits and ovals between 2013 and 2018.[1]
Munoz took six wins and ten podiums across his 24-race Indy NXT campaign with Andretti Global, establishing himself as a strong prospect before stepping up to IndyCar. His senior single-seater record across Europe yielded 43 starts and three podiums in Formula 3 championships, with a fourth-place finish in the FIA Formula 3 European round at Macau. In IndyCar proper, he recorded one win and seven podiums from 73 starts; he finished ahead of Fernando Alonso, the two-time Formula 1 champion, at least once, and beat Edoardo Mortara, the 2010 Formula 3 Euro Series champion, in head-to-head racing. Signature, his primary team across 29 of those starts, had fielded elite-level drivers including Carlos Sainz and won 24 races across the index.[2]
Munoz spent six seasons in IndyCar against a grid regularly featuring Josef Newgarden and Scott Dixon, both multiple Indy NXT and IndyCar champions. He typically finished behind both drivers in their meetings. The strength of his early-career Indy NXT record placed him among genuine title contenders, yet his IndyCar record settled against established champions suggests a gap between promise and sustained performance at that level. He raced Indy 500 entries late in his career, including a replacement drive for the final two rounds of the 2018 season.
