Carlos Munoz is a retired Colombian single-seater driver who competed at the established professional level, with a Racer Rating of 5,723. This rating places him among the sharp end of a strong professional field; drivers at this level typically hold full-time seats in top championships or contest major sportscar events, and win races consistently against quality opposition. Munoz's career spanned eleven seasons from 2008 to 2018, totalling 164 starts across six series.[1]
Munoz's strongest period came in Indy NXT, where he won six times and finished on the podium in ten of twenty-four starts for Andretti Global between 2012 and 2013. He then moved to IndyCar, where he spent six seasons from 2013 to 2018, accumulating a single win and seven podiums across seventy-three starts. In that championship, he raced frequently against multiple elite professionals and multiple-time series champions including Scott Dixon, Josef Newgarden, and Simon Pagenaud. Against these rivals his record was mixed; he finished ahead of Newgarden in twenty-five of their seventy-three shared races, ahead of Rahal in twenty-eight, and ahead of Sato in thirty-nine. However, he was consistently outpaced by Dixon, finishing ahead of him only seventeen times in seventy-three races. Earlier in his career, he contested the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2010 and 2011 for Signature, taking three podiums in forty starts but no wins. He also raced in Formula Renault Eurocup and made brief appearances in the FIA Formula 3 European championship and the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix. In single outings against much stronger drivers, Fernando Alonso, a two-time Formula 1 world champion, Valtteri Bottas, and Edoardo Mortara among them, he occasionally finished ahead, though these were isolated results rather than patterns of competitive superiority.
