🇨🇦 John Jones

John Jones was a Canadian driver competing in International Formula 3000, a single-class open-wheel championship that raced drivers across amateur, semi-professional and professional grades. He raced for Lola from 1986 to 1990, taking 28 starts across five seasons and finishing 12th in the 1990 championship with one podium that year.[1]

Jones finished his indexed career at an established professional level, with a rating of 5,609. His record in Formula 3000 placed him mid-field against the regulars he met most often; he was closely matched with Pierre-Henri Raphanel, an established professional with 32 Formula 3000 starts, and typically finished behind Luis Perez-Sala, a driver who later moved to Formula 1. He beat Allan McNish once, another established professional who would go on to race in Formula 1 and endurance racing, and finished ahead of Raphanel three times across their meetings.[2]

Outside the indexed record, Jones raced in the CART IndyCar series from 1988 to 1992, taking 41 starts including the 1989 Indianapolis 500 and finishing 11th in the season standings as Rookie of the Year in 1988, with eleven top-ten finishes across that campaign.
