Schmersal was an entry-level professional competing in national multiclass endurance racing. His primary category was the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, where he raced turbocharged and modified production-based cars across its SP 3T, SP 6 and SP 7 classes between 2010 and 2016. He also contested the 24H Series, an international multiclass endurance championship, in its GT4 classes from 2017 to 2022, driving for Heide-Motorsport.[1]
Over 28 starts in the Nürburgring series, Schmersal won six races and took 11 podiums. He was crowned champion of the 2010 Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie with Car #180. His final indexed season was 2016, when he competed in two rounds and finished tenth in the championship standings. In the 24H Series, he made three starts across its international calendar.[2]
Schmersal was a regular competitor against established names in German endurance racing. He usually finished behind Christoph Breuer, a three-time Nürburgring series champion, though he was closely matched with fellow entry-level professional Andreas Ziegler across multiple seasons. He beat established professional Tobias Müller, a 2019 Nürburgring series champion graded FIA Silver, on at least one occasion, as well as Gold-graded Christian Krognes, who held 86 Nürburgring starts and had raced in GT World Challenge Europe.
