Luca Persiani was an Italian racing driver who competed across sportscar and single-seater categories between 2004 and 2021, accumulating 13 starts with a single podium finish. His career spanned two distinct periods: an early attempt in single-seaters with two Formula Renault Eurocup starts in 2004 and 2005, followed by a longer engagement in IMSA WeatherTech and Lamborghini Blancpain racing from 2016 onwards. Holding an FIA Silver categorisation in sportscar racing, he operated as a professional-level driver in the endurance paddock, though one with limited race opportunities. His average finishing position across all classified outings stood at P10.1.[1]
Persiani's most substantial competitive period came through his association with Dream Racing Motorsport, which fielded him in eight of his thirteen starts across IMSA and Lamborghini competition. His single podium came in the 2016 Blancpain Super Trofeo. In IMSA WeatherTech, he contested seven rounds without reaching the podium, sharing grids with a succession of considerably more established drivers. His head-to-head record against peers reveals the depth of competition he faced; he failed to outfinish Gold-graded professionals Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow across six encounters each, and finished behind both repeatedly. Notably, he achieved isolated results against significantly stronger drivers, including outfinishing Davide Valsecchi, a Platinum-graded former champion, and Shane Van Gisbergen, a Platinum-graded two-time champion, on two occasions combined. His final competitive outing came in 2021 in Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, where he finished P12 across two rounds. Persiani died in August 2024.[2]
