Mark Howard is a British driver who raced in the British Touring Car Championship in 2016, the top domestic touring car series in the United Kingdom. He competed for Team BKR across a full season of 30 rounds, finishing an average of 23rd; he registered no wins or podium finishes. Howard's entry into the BTCC came after winning the Renault Clio Cup United Kingdom Masters in 2015, a step up that proved highly competitive.[1]
Howard's 2016 season placed him in fields populated by multiple champions and graded professionals. Among his regular rivals were multiple title winners such as Gordon Shedden and Rob Collard, both substantially higher-rated drivers; against Shedden, a four-time champion, Howard finished ahead in one of their 19 meetings. He also raced against Ash Sutton, a four-time champion with a rating of 6,866, and managed to finish ahead of him on two occasions. These isolated results against drivers of that calibre represent the highlights of an otherwise uncompetitive campaign in which Howard was outpaced in the majority of his races.[2]
Howard retired from racing after 2016 and has not returned to competition. His sole season on record represents an amateur-level career in professional-category racing, undertaken against established touring car competitors at a significant performance gap.
