Matthias Weiland was a semi-professional endurance racing driver who competed in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, a multiclass championship run at the Nürburgring in which amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals shared the grid. He raced Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in the Cup 2 class and modified production-based machinery in SP 7, driving shared entries where he and his co-drivers took turns during endurance races. He spent his indexed career with Scuderia Offenbach.[1]
Weiland's racing record ran across two seasons from 2010 to 2011, with 15 starts, one win and three podium finishes. His peak came in his first season, when he took a win and two podiums across five rounds. In 2011 his form dipped; he took one podium from five races and finished 12th in the championship standings. He was a closely matched competitor with Frank Kräling, an entry-level professional who would later become the 2011 Cup 2 champion, and usually finished behind Rodney Forbes, the 2010 Cup 2 champion. His record included a finish ahead of established professional Johan Kristoffersson, who has since raced the FIA World Touring Car Cup.[2]
