His entire record consists of 23 starts in the Star Mazda Championship across three seasons from 2004 to 2006, yielding no wins or podiums and an average finishing position of P14.9.[1]

Gilbert competed in a field that included multiple established professionals and future standouts. His most frequent rivals were mixed in calibre; he finished ahead of Ryan Justice (a semi-professional at 4,119) in nine of twenty-two races but behind him in thirteen, a losing record against a driver of similar standing. Against John Faulkner and Doug Peterson he had the better of the head-to-head exchanges, but against Ross Smith and Ryan Justice he did not. Notably, Gilbert managed single victories in head-to-head terms against several much stronger drivers: he beat Michael McDowell, the 2004 Star Mazda champion and now an established professional at 6,310, on one occasion; Graham Rahal, an elite professional at 6,122, three times; and Bryan Sellers, an elite professional at 5,238, once. These were isolated results in a sparse record rather than signs of a pattern.

Gilbert drove primarily for Eurosports Racing, which fielded him in twenty-one of his twenty-three starts. The team produced one race win across its history and its strongest driver on record was Mike Potekhen at 4,102. Gilbert's career ended in 2006 with a twenty-first place finish in Star Mazda; he has not raced since.
