🏳️ Paul Capel

Paul Capel is a developing driver competing in national-level amateur and semi-professional solo racing. He races in SCCA Regionals and SCCA Majors, multiclass sprint championships run across the United States in which up to 25 classes share the track in a single race. He competes primarily in the SM class, a spec series for 1990-2005 Mazda MX-5 Miatas, and also races the STL and ITS classes with production-based and limited-modification cars.[1]

Capel has completed six seasons of indexed racing from 2021 to 2026, with 33 starts across the two series. His most recent activity is in the 2026 SCCA Regionals season, in which he has raced two rounds so far and currently sits 74th in the championship standings. He has beaten entry-level professionals Camden Gruber, who has 55 SCCA Majors starts and 27 Regionals starts, and Marcello Paniccia, who has competed in SCCA Majors and Regionals as well as the Whelen Mazda Cup, once each.[2]

Capel races in fields including competitive amateurs and occasional entry-level professionals. His regular opponents include Nick Leverone, a competitive amateur with extensive experience across SCCA Regionals and Majors as well as the SCCA Runoffs, and David Ciufo, a club-level driver; Capel typically finishes behind both of them.
