Sarah Montgomery competed in the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin from 2016 to 2019, contesting 23 races for Sick Sideways Racing. Her Racer Rating of 2,912 places her in the competitive amateur band; this level describes the front of club racing and entry-level professional fields, where drivers are quick enough to compete seriously but not consistently quick enough to reach the sharp end. Montgomery finished on average in P17.1 across her classified starts, never securing a win or podium finish during her time in the series.[1]

Montgomery's record against her most frequent rivals shows the nature of her competitiveness. Against John Dean, a Bronze-graded driver with 23 shared races, she finished ahead on three occasions. Similarly, she beat Nathanial Sparks, the 2016 series champion, on three of their 22 encounters. More tellingly, Montgomery occasionally outran drivers above her rating band, finishing ahead of Mason Filippi, a Silver-graded professional, on three occasions, and Robby Foley, a Gold-graded sportscar winner, also three times; these results were isolated moments rather than sustained performance trends. The bulk of her head-to-head records tell a different story: she finished behind Dean 20 times, behind Sparks 19 times, and behind several other mid-field competitors across the season. Her career ended in 2019 after 12 final-season rounds in which she placed P19, and she has since retired from racing.
