Shawn Sharkey was a competitive amateur driver who contested the SKUSA SuperNationals, an entry-level series, between 2008 and 2011. His career record encompasses five starts across four seasons with no wins or podium finishes, placing him at a racer rating of 2,621; this level describes club and competitive amateur racing, typically the front of fields at regional and national club level rather than established professional series. His average finishing position of thirteenth reflects consistent participation without breakthrough results in his chosen field.[1]

Sharkey's competitive record against his peers shows a difficult head-to-head pattern. He failed to finish ahead of several drivers competing at similar ratings in shared events; most notably, he never finished ahead of Louie Pagano, Felipe Fraga, or Phillip Orcic across three to four races together, with only Fraga and Orcic being notably stronger than his own rating suggested. However, Sharkey did record isolated victories over some substantially stronger drivers: he finished ahead of Scott Hargrove, a former Pro Mazda champion rated at 4,258, Trent Hindman, a dual IMSA champion rated at 4,520, and Alec Udell, a 2024 GT World Challenge America Pro champion rated at 4,719.
