William Daniel competed in the Star Mazda Championship between 2005 and 2007, completing eleven starts across two seasons with Red Beard Racing. He recorded no wins or podium finishes, averaging a finishing position of 22nd place across his classified results. His most recent race came in 2007, finishing 30th. Daniel is now retired from racing.[1]

Daniel's record places him in the semi-professional band at 3,527 on the Racer Rating scale; this level describes drivers who compete in pro-am and one-make classes and typically run mid-pack among full professionals. His head-to-head record in the Star Mazda Championship was mixed. He beat Dan Tomlin Jr., a weaker driver, in eight of eleven encounters. Against the stronger fields represented by Graham Rahal, an FIA Gold driver and established professional, and James Hinchcliffe, another Gold driver competing at the professional level, Daniel struggled significantly; he finished ahead of Rahal once in ten races but never finished ahead of Hinchcliffe in their ten shared starts. He showed better results against Adrian Carrio, the 2006 Star Mazda champion, finishing ahead of him twice in ten races, though he remained well behind Carrio more often. Daniel's single-digit finishes against several mid-level professionals suggest he found the competitive environment demanding for most of his brief career.[2]
