🇨🇦 James Hinchcliffe

Hinchcliffe is a professional driver and an FIA Gold-graded endurance competitor who has raced across single-seater and sports-car categories for seventeen seasons since 2005. He is best known for his decade in IndyCar, where he started 162 times between 2011 and 2021, and he remains active in various series. He currently works as a commentator for IndyCar broadcasts on FOX Sports and occasional Formula One coverage.[1]

His record spans open-wheel racing in North America, sportscar endurance competition, and brief starts in other series. In Indy NXT, he won three times and finished on the podium eight times across thirteen starts in 2010 for Team Moore Racing. His IndyCar career produced six wins and eighteen podiums across a full decade; he raced ovals and road courses equally, with eighty of his 162 starts on oval tracks. In IMSA WeatherTech endurance racing, he has started eleven times since 2014 in both GT3 and prototype machinery for Pfaff Motorsports, competing in multiclass fields. He won three races early in his career in the Star Mazda Championship in 2005 and has made occasional returns to racing in recent years, including starts in the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup in 2023 and a NASCAR Truck appearance in 2026.[2]

Hinchcliffe has raced regularly against established and elite-level professionals in IndyCar, where he was closely matched with FIA Gold-graded Graham Rahal but typically finished behind Scott Dixon, a six-time IndyCar champion and Platinum-graded driver. He has beaten elite professionals including Alex Palou, a five-time IndyCar champion, on seven occasions, and Pato O'Ward, a 2021 IndyCar race-winner and Indy NXT champion, nine times. His standing as a professional reflects a career of sustained competition at this level rather than dominance within it.
