Dominique Claessens was a professional driver who raced in the Formula Renault Eurocup, a single-class international championship that fielded amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals together. He drove for JD Motorsport in 2004, his sole indexed season.[1]
Claessens completed 13 starts in Formula Renault Eurocup in 2004 and finished 14th in the championship standings. His record included finishes ahead of established professionals; he beat Davide Valsecchi, the 2012 GP2 Series champion who raced extensively in single-seaters and prototype racing, multiple times across the season, and finished ahead of Pastor Maldonado, the 2010 GP2 Series champion and later a 96-race Formula 1 driver, at least once. Against Salvador Durán, a professional with significant experience in Formula Renault Eurocup, Formula V8 3.5 and Formula E, Claessens was closely matched. He usually finished behind Pascal Kochem, another regular in the series.[2]
