Fahmi Ilyas was a professional single-seater racer from Malaysia who spent his career in solo, single-class open-wheel championships that mixed amateurs and graded professionals on the same grid. He drove for Double R Racing across his two main campaigns, in FIA Formula 3 European and the Formula 3 Euro Series, after starting out with Fortec Motorsports in the Formula Renault Eurocup. His rating of 4,171 places him in the professional band.[1]
His record runs to fifteen starts over two seasons, 2011 and 2012. The bulk of it came in FIA Formula 3 European with Double R Racing, supplemented by four Formula 3 Euro Series starts for the same team, and his career opened with two Formula Renault Eurocup rounds for Fortec Motorsports, where he finished twenty-first in the championship standings.[2]
Double R Racing, the team he raced for most, has fielded drivers up to the level of Mitch Evans and won races across the grid. Ilyas raced regularly against Carlos Sainz and Raffaele Marciello, both of whom he generally finished behind, but he beat Sainz twice and also finished ahead of Felix Rosenqvist, the 2015 FIA Formula 3 European champion, on two occasions.
