🇺🇸 Rodney Combs

Rodney Combs is a retired professional stock car driver who competed in NASCAR Xfinity between 1982 and 1997. He raced primarily for Emerald Performance Group across 116 starts, piloting single-seater stock cars on a series that mixed amateur, semi-professional and professional competitors on the same grid. The vast majority of his racing took place on oval tracks, with occasional road and street course rounds.[1]

Combs spent sixteen seasons racing in the Xfinity Series, finishing 40th in the championship standings in his final season of 1997. His career was built on consistent competition against drivers at his own level and stronger; he was closely matched with entry-level professional Hermie Sadler and professional Tim Fedewa, both regular opponents across multiple seasons. He finished ahead of established professional Tony Stewart on six occasions and beat 1997 and 1998 Xfinity champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. once. His racing background extended to open-wheel and short-track competition in the Midwest before joining NASCAR, and he was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2001.[2]
